Run and maintain
Once live it is our job. We monitor it, improve it, and adapt it as the business changes, so it does not go stale six months in.
In practice
Two systems we built and still run. The point of each is not that it automated a task. It is that the business runs on it.
Room and bed inventory, resident records, check-in and check-out, attendance, curfews and allowances. A student app and a parent portal alongside the staff dashboard, so one set of records serves three audiences and nobody re-keys anything. Reporting that answers a question rather than exporting a spreadsheet.
No existing system came close to fitting how they actually operate. As they add locations, the same team runs all of them.
Inventory, dealer purchase orders, payment verification and compliance checks, as one flow from order through to payment rather than four systems and a spreadsheet between them.
The compliance step sits inside the process, not beside it. Medical supply distribution has rules about what may be sold to whom and what has to be recorded, and those checks run at the point the decision is made instead of in a checklist someone is meant to remember.
Why this is reliable rather than merely automated is the premise everything else rests on: the judgment stays yours, and the system is built so it cannot take it.
